KENYA WALKING SAFARI
This Kenya Walking Safari and camel trekking safari takes place in the wilds of Samburu nomadic pastoralists in Kenya. It is for adventurous travelers who like to explore the natural and un-spoilt African wilds. They are not luxury safaris, nor rough and uncomfortable. You will ride or walk through the bush guided by the local Samburu morans, one of Kenyans most colorful indigenous tribes. You will enjoy banda accommodations on first and last days and the rest in tents basic.
DAY 1: NAIROBI – MARALAL
After breakfast, depart from Nairobi traveling via Nyahururu, may stop at the spectacular Thomson’s Falls for lunch as you view the falls. Nyahururu is a Samburu word meaning ‘roaring waters to our Yare Camel Camp. Maralal for overnight in self-contained bandas cottages.
DAY 2: CAMEL TREKKING – WALKING
After breakfast depart with your camel and Moran’s into the bush. You will ride through the area never quite sure what you will see. It should be remembered that this safari is not primarily a game-viewing safari but one can see several wild animals. It is one led by and in total harmony with the local Samburu people. Picnic lunch en-route will be served at the place you will camp for the night. Thereafter, an optional guided walk through the bush before dinner and overnight under the stars.
DAY 3,4 & 5: CAMEL TREKKING – WALKING
Mattresses pad the locally wooden frames on the camels, and after breakfast, you are set and through the bush either riding or walking as you choose. It is a leisurely pace and you may change from walking to hiking as you prefer. You will pass by Samburu Manyattas that your lead Moran can organize for you to visit. As this is spontaneous, the Morans will discuss with the elders for permission for your entry.
You will be asked to pay something towards the family for photography and viewing their homes. This is not always included in the safari cost and is only a small amount offered as a courtesy. Each day you will have a picnic lunch in the bush, and then continue to your next campsite. A shower will be erected for you to dust off (depending on water availability).
DAY 6: MARALAL
The camel trek ends late morning back at the Yare Camp. Here you will shower and take lunch before walking with your Moran guides into the frontier town of Maralal. The art crafts to see, the Samburu market and a way of life different from other places you might have visited on your holiday. In the evening, the Morans and their ladies will perform dances for you as entertainment at the Camp. You will be free to take as many pictures as you want even to join in the dancing if you feel up to it. This night you are in the bandas again and can clean up before your free return transfer in the morning.
DAY 7: MARALAL – NAIROBI
After breakfast, depart southbound back to Nairobi via Laikipia plains. It is usually rare for one not to see wild animals like Giraffes, Elephants, Zebras, and antelopes. You are expected to arrive in Nairobi usually in the late afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO CARRY.
- Money in loose change for personal spending and tipping
- Only a small case or rack-sack, as carrying and storage space is limited
- A pair of long trousers and a jersey for cool mornings and evenings. in addition to plenty of light clothes and a hat for hot days.
- Remember to carry good walking shoes.
- Torch, sunglasses, suntan lotion, insect repellant/spray (nut not mosquito coils).
- Camera, binoculars, maps, guide-books.
